A visit to Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest is special at any time of year, but particularly in the autumn, when golds and browns blend with the rich greens of the rare and beautiful conifers of the Pinetum. Enjoy the many walking and cycling trails on site, or if lucky with the weather, take a picnic and enjoy the last of the Indian summer sunshine.
The romantic ruins of Scotney Castle dating from the 14th century are nestled in a beautiful valley of trees of all shapes, sizes and types which burst into colour at this time of year. Stroll through the several acres of garden surrounding the moated castle, before visiting the Victorian manor house and tea rooms recently opened to visitors.
The gardens at Groombridge Place feature magnificent walled gardens, herbaceous borders and 'drunken' topiary set against the backdrop of a magnificent 17th century moated manor. In autumn, the gardens are transformed with the brilliant shades of red, copper and gold of the borders and surrounding trees, contrasted with the vibrant blues of the resident peacocks .
Japanese maples, beech and others come into their own at this time of year at Hever Castle Gardens. Wonderful displays of dahlias, late roses provide colour against the backdrop of the statuary of the Italian garden and yew topiary hedges and borders. Combined with a visit to the Castle, once the family home of Anne Boleyn, Hever makes for a lovely day out.
Visitors to Hole Park Garden can enjoy the colourful exotic borders together with the autumn colours of the mature Stalwart oak trees and the regal reds and elegant shapes of the Japanese maples. Classic plantings combine with flowering shrubs in a woodland setting to create a truly inspiring garden covering over 15 acres.
