Tunbridge Wells Celebrates British Tourism Week

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council will be joining destinations from across the UK to help celebrate VisitBritain's British Tourism Week from 15-21 March. Tunbridge Wells Tourist Information Centre, operated by the Council will be offering two opportunities for local residents to discover and enjoy what millions of visitors each year come to the Tunbridge Wells area to experience.

Free Guided Walks will be offered on Saturday 20th March, starting from the Centre in the Pantiles at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Tours will last one hour and will take in the Pantiles, Chalybeate Spring and High Street. Regular Guided Walking Tours are offered every Thursday and Saturday morning March to December, and are fantastic way of learning all about the colourful history of the town and its many famous visitors over the last 400 years.

There will also be the opportunity for visitors to the Tourist Information Centre to enter a free prize draw to win a Seven Wonders of the Weald Family Pass which offers savings of over £150 when visiting local visitor attractions in the High Weald. All that is needed to enter is to answer a simple question. A draw of the correct answers will take place in the following week.

The national tourist board VisitBritain encourages all UK destinations to take part in annual Tourism British Week in order to highlight the importance of the tourism industry to the British economy - worth over £114 billion each year. Tourism in the borough of Tunbridge Wells alone is worth a staggering £199 million per year to the local economy and businesses including accommodation providers, visitor attractions, shops and restaurants. The industry also supports over 3,900 local jobs in the borough.

Cllr Elizabeth Thomas, Portfolio Holder for Planning & Economic Development commented, 'Local tourism businesses and the visitors who come to this area are vital to the borough's local economy. It's important that local residents too take the opportunity to see what is on offer. Come and enjoy exploring our wonderful borough!'
