On 17 July 2012, just ten days before the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, Royal Tunbridge Wells will welcome the Olympic Flame as it begins its journey through the county of Kent. It will give local communities and indivduals their moment to shine as the Olympic Flame comes to the town.
The Olympic Flame will shine a light right across Tunbridge Wells, celebrating the area's rich culture and heritage. The Torch Relay is just one of a number of events taking place in the borough of Tunbridge Wells during 2012 which, as well as the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, also celebrates the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is planning a year of celebrations encompassing these events to include live screening of the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in Dunorlan Park, Royal Tunbridge Wells and the lighting of special beacons for the Jubilee events on 4 June 2012.
