Royal Tunbridge Wells is looking lovely this summer with hanging baskets, barrier troughs and blooming planters installed around the town centre.

Some people admire them, some do not take much notice of the planters – but we all take them for granted. Can you imagine the town with no flowers at all?

Behind the beauty of the floral displays there is the hard work of the Royal Tunbridge Wells in Bloom team – work that doesn’t stop even in winter.

Beside the routine gardening tasks like planting, weeding and watering we put a lot of effort in planning, marketing and looking for funds.

Royal Tunbridge Wells in Bloom consists of Tunbridge Wells’ residents and councillors, council’s contractors and officers, local schools, businesses and voluntary organisations.

The once popular Bloom campaign was revived in 2010 and has been growing strong ever since.

Royal Tunbridge Wells entered the South & South East in Bloom competition for first time in 2011, winning a Silver Gilt award for the town centre and Gold for Dunorlan Park.

Each year since 2012 Tunbridge Wells achieved the Gold award in the Large Town category. This year, thanks to commitment of the Bloom team, we were able to enter the town, as well as a record number of seven parks and open spaces, to the South & South East in Bloom competition.

We also run a gardening competition for local residents, schools and businesses in several categories; including front gardens, flower baskets and planters, allotments and balconies. This year we received a record of 171 entries in the competition.

Results for South & South East in Bloom and Royal Tunbridge Wells in Bloom competitions will be known in September.
