Clare Lush - Mansell, My Tunbridge WellsAfter a busy summer full of day trips, refereeing arguments and spending any ‘free’ time catching up with work, the prospect of going to Kalmora Spa in Goudhurst to have some treatments ‘just for me’ was one of the main things that kept me going towards the end of August!

Hidden in grounds outside of the gorgeous village of Goudhurst, around 20 minutes from Royal Tunbridge Wells, on first impressions, Kalmora Spa doesn’t particularly look like the most luxurious of places. However looks can be deceiving - once you walk through the door, you will find yourself immersed in a little haven of tranquility which has a slightly ‘undiscovered’ feel.

Kalmora Spa is owned by Finders International Limited which is a successful business started by a Goudhurst family back in 1982. They produce some beautiful products known as the ‘Spa Find’ range, all of which contain mineral spa therapies and are supplied to lots of well-known beauty businesses.  They are also available to purchase directly from their spas in Goudhurst and Plymouth. The spas themselves specialise in mineral spa therapies from across the  globe and the Goudhurst branch has the first ever hydroflotation pool in the world!

I started off my spa day with a flotation session in the hydro pool which was a wonderful way of switching off and kick starting my journey of relaxation. Containing concentrations of minerals from the Dead Sea, these water therapy treatments can help to relieve a range of skin conditions.

Clare at Kalmora Spa, GoudhurstAfter getting a short brief on what to expect from the spa manager, Maxine, I had a quick shower and settled into the pool, ready for some zen. The lights went down and I just lay there in a hot pool of perfection for what seemed like much longer than 40 minutes. I could feel a tingly sensation around my scalp as the minerals worked their way into my body and as I got deeper into relaxation mode, I was able to zone out completely and just ‘float’ - a rare luxury for me at the moment!

When my time was up, I enjoyed a ‘shower and steam’  in the same room and got settled into a comfy robe and slippers supplied by Kalmora Spa, ready for my next treatment! Next, I was taken upstairs to a spacious room and introduced to Hannah who was my lovely therapist for the rest of the day. She explained the treatments she would be giving and we started off with a hot stone back massage which was out of this world!

Using Hawaiian hot stones, the massage started with a warm foot compress. After having a few massages in the past elsewhere, which have been a little painful,  I was interested to see what a hot stone massage would be like. I can confirm I’m a convert - the combination of warm stones with the oil made this the most enjoyable massage I’ve experienced to date. Hannah got the balance just right and managed to untie those knots which have no doubt been building up!

The ‘Essential Elements Facial’ was next on the menu - a treatment most suited to new clients. This included a mini consultation to determine what ‘type’ of skin I have, so that Hannah could use the most suitable prescriptive mineral products for my skin. Having a facial is usually my treatment of choice and this one was everything it promised to be - transporting me to another level where I was able to unwind and enjoy being pampered.

We stopped for lunch - I had pre-chosen a sandwich from the menu and enjoyed twenty minutes of interrupted bliss with just my kindle. My final indulgence of the day was a much needed Kalmora Pedicure. This included a buff and file, shaping and some soothing oils and creams being rubbed onto my tootsies, along with having them wrapped up to get the full effect. I had chosen a hot pink varnish so after the perfect pedicure and foot massage, Hannah applied this vibrant varnish which was a huge improvement from the chipped looking toe-nails I had turned up with.

Kalmora Spa is a true hidden gem in the beautiful Kent countryside and I’m already looking forward to visiting it again.

The owners have recently opened Scruffy Chops Dog Grooming Spa on site too so if you have a pooch who might appreciate being pampered you can always book yourself in for a treatment whilst you wait.

Goudhurst village is picturesque with a fabulous fountain and pond in front of a charming village hall as well as some super-duper pubs including The Goudhurst Inn - where we had a fantastic family gathering the day after our wedding. Next time I manage to get a morning or afternoon off, I know where I’ll be going!
